how well do you know the presidents?
Think you're pretty knowledgeable, huh? Think you've got your American history down pat? Ok then. Identify the president by their haircut.

more origami goodness
The NYTimes has an article on an MIT professor in the new field of origami mathematics. There's also a link to his own website. I still need to give the article a thorough reading, but it looks intriguing.

you say unpopular, I say unique
Go find your name in the BabyNameVoyager. See how popular (or not) it's been in the US over the past 100+ years. it's a very cool interface -- overlapping layers showing multiple names at once, narrowing down as you type in more letters.
oh yeah -- mine's on an upswing, tho it had its peak back in the 1950's. it's never cracked the top 500, so it's fairly uncommon but not uberfreakish, which is just the way i like it.

for when the weather is better
I am inspired by the concept of FlipWalks -- where you let the flip of a coin determine which direction you shall walk at every intersection. Seems like a good way of discovering neighborhoods you never knew about. I think i'll wait til after the blizzard season is over tho.
