This cracks me up
From an alumni newsletter:
The Board of Trustees has voted to name the new student center in honor of a donor who wishes to remain anonymous for the time being.

Like i don't have enough to read already
Thanks to languagehat, i've found me yet another intellectual distraction (doesn't that sound better than "time waster"?): the OED Newsletter archive. today i don't have much time to spare, so i can't say that i've read anything in it, but just the titles of the articles look so appealing....

Jealousy
I got a digital camera for Christmas, and i've been having lots of fun playing with it. I've even taken quite a few shots that i felt rather proud of and have been thinking of redoing my website to show them off. and then I took a look at Dave's photo album and came back down to earth about my photographic prowess. He has such an eye for scenery pics, it almost makes me weep. Go look at the New Zealand/Australia section or the Death Valley pics if you don't believe me.

Discovery of the day
K & I were at Mystic Seaport for the day, mainly to catch the Sea Music Festival they were having. We didn't know anyone on the schedule besides Tommy Makem, but how wrong can you go with sea chanties? we are Great Big Sea groupies, you know.
Well, it turns out we are now great big Le Vent du Nord groupies as well. All their songs are in French, so it's not like we could understand a single word, but man the music is fine -- it had us dancing in the aisles. no, literally -- one of the band members got off the stage to start the French Canadian version of a conga line and we rushed to join in. :)

Thoughts on the Tonys
- Avenue Q WON! Not just for book, not just for score -- for BEST MUSICAL! This just may be a sign of the apocalypse, but if so, it'll be the happiest apocalypse ever! i only wish that one of them had thanked the Children Television Workshop for not suing them. ;-)
- I was very glad to see my boy Hugh win, even if it meant that John Tartaglia didn't get a Tony of his very own.
- Raul, you're still number one in my book. and man, you were looking sharp. plus, Michael Cerveris gets points for singling you out as someone to watch for.
- Victor (Garber), you also were looking as sharp as usual, even with the mustache, which i gotta say, gots to go. and tho you completely hid it, i just know you were thinking that if your production of Assassins had made it to Broadway, you could have won for John Wilkes Booth as well. and i do believe you're right.
- Rockettes sharing the stage with a passel of Russian Jews (from Fiddler) was completely surreal -- wonderful, but mindboggling.
- Speaking of the Rockettes -- i do believe that Hugh kicked higher than they did. be still my beating heart!
- And speaking of my beating heart -- thanks go out to the folks who kept the camera on Hugh's gold lame pants. Mmmmm.....
- We shall never mention the LLCoolJ/animatronic Carol Channing interactions again. [shudder]
- Mary J. Blige was uninspiring. but Tony Bennett still has it.
- I'm soooooooo envious of Rod. he got to smooch Hugh! how much did that scene rock?!
- During the performance of "It Sucks To Be Me", the John Tartaglia's handoff from Rod to Princeton was PERFECTION. just wow.
- Sarah Jessica just slipped down yet another notch in my estimation -- how hard is it to shake your booty? please, girl -- learn to have some fun. As Thicky said, Hugh should have dragged Frank Langella up on stage with him -- that man would have run with it and not killed the momentum of the moment.
- Idina Menzel & Taye Diggs are gonna have some beautiful children someday. and way to go girl with thanking all the techies who make you green & help you fly!
- Did i mention -- Avenue Q won!!!! Puppets rule!
sorry for the overload of exclamation points; the Tonys bring that out in me
